Frequently Asked Questions

  1. WHAT IS THE WILLOW CURVE?

The Willow Curve is a smart laser device, designed by physicians to relieve joint and muscle pain.  It can be used effectively by a health care professional in offices and clinics and in patient homes.

Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is well researched, documented, and has been used for years in pain clinics treating painful conditions across the country.  According to the National Institute of Health (NIH) there have been 400 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials published with over 4,000 basic science research and clinical studies of Low Level Laster Therapy (LLLT). Much of the landmark research was done by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), providing the springboard for many additional studies.

  • Accreditations: FDA registered; ISO 13485; Arthritis Foundation; Ease of Use Commendation; American Medical Association assigned a new Clinical Procedure Code (CPT) #0552T, patented; GSA Federal contract V797D-70038.
  1. WHAT DOES THE WILLOW CURVE DO?
  • The Willow Curve Smart Laser produces dynamic multi-band alternating pulse therapy (ATP) the body tissues absorb to:
    • Enhance central pain management systems function,
    • Spark the body’s opioid receptor,
    • Reduce inflammatory pain response and accelerate tissue healing.
    • Suppress sensory fatigue (adaptation), improving extended pain relief momentum and recovery.
  • The Willow Curve is not a conventional therapeutic laser; however, the resulting physio-biological changes in the treated area mimic what happens when therapeutic lasers are used.
  •  The Willow Curve technology is equally effective as a therapeutic laser; has none of the dangers and risks of the therapeutic laser; and can be used in the home setting at a fraction of the price of a therapeutic laser.
  1. HOW IS THIS UNIT BETTER THAN ANY OTHER UNIT ON THE MARKET?
  • The Willow Curve is the patented digital computer for pain management.
  • Physicians and patients report over a 90% favorable response rate when used as suggested.
  • It is easy to use and was awarded the Arthritis Foundation Ease-of-Use Commendation.
  • When used as directed there are no adverse side effects, and it poses no danger to the user. The Willow Curve is positioned as a leader in digital pain management.
  • The Willow Curve offers hands free application and does not require a health care professional or protective eye equipment.
  1. MEDICARE & INSURANCE
  • Medicare has assigned Durable Medical Equipment (DME) #E0221 for Medicare billing. Insurance claims must be accompanied by a prescription, letter of medical necessity from the physician, and the patient record.  Medicare will determine what they will cover based on the patient and record of care.
  • In September 2018, the American Medical Association created a new Clinical Procedure Code (CPT) #0552T for insurance billing. The code has been posted at: https://correctcodechek.decisionhealth.com/CPT/Detail.aspx?Code=0552T.
  • It is scheduled to be published in the Medical Code Books for use on July 1, 2019
  1. FLEX SPENDING ACCOUNTS (FSA) & HEALTH SAVINGS ACCOUNTS (HSA)
  • Some employers offer employees an account funded entirely or in part by the employer. This is commonly known as an HSA (Health Spending Account) or an FSA (Flex spending account). These and credit cards can be used to purchase a Willow Curve.
  • Credit card processors give merchants that sell medical supplies a code so they can accept such cards. Willow Labs, LLC is an approved coded merchant.
  • When a purchase of approved medical equipment or supplies is made, the merchant’s processor debits only the amount of the approved medical supplies or equipment from the balance on the card.
  • This does not require a prescription but must comply with the employer’s health plan requirements.
  • It is important for the Willow Curve purchaser to keep their receipt in case they need to supply it as proof of purchase to the IRS if it is ever requested.
  1. PRESCRIPTION
  • Purchase of the Willow Curve via an out-of-pocket payment does not require a prescription.
  1. HOW DOES THE CURVE WORK?
  • Sports, other trauma and joint disease can create joint inflammation and pain.
  • Published medical research reveals how inflammation can attack tissue structures and leave behind floating cellular debris that wear on delicate joint tissue and delay healing.
  • Imagine how a few grains of sand (akin to the cellular debris) in a fine mechanical watch movement could interfere with its performance.
  • The Willow Curve is a 100% drug free medical device designed to temporarily relieve pain and increase circulation, reduce stiffness, and help your body do what it does naturally to  ease the  pain and promote  natural healing.
  1. “IS THE WILLOW CURVE JUST A FANCY HEATING PAD?”
  • 50,000 patients rely on the Willow Curve
  • While we cannot comment specifically on a heating pad, the Willow Curve is a digital smart low level laser therapy device (LLLT) that combines both patented bio-sensory and bio-therapeutic features. It penetrates the tissue stimulating certain photo responsive cells to help increase blood flow.  This triggers a natural physiological and chemical chain of events that promotes the flow of fluid and toxic cellular debris away from the joint to be eliminated by the body.  This reduces pain, swelling, increasing mobility while enhancing the healing process. Many of our patients comment on how the results of using a heating pad pale in comparison to the Willow Curve.
  • The Willow Curve produces a unique customized digital prescription. It utilizes a wide spectrum of energies, frequencies and delivery parameters that change thousands of times /sec. are adjusted in real time to your condition.
  • The Willow Curve joint scanning technology collects information from at and below your skin surface. Then the Curve calculates and digitally delivers multiple energy beams that change thousands of times/second that gently stimulate vasodilation and over 15 bio-physiological-chemical processes which promote an increase in  cellular debris and fluid  flow from your joint and muscles  and be eliminated from your body.
  • For more technical information you might be interested in a video scientific discussion about our technology.

  1. HOW IS THE CURVE POWERED
  • The Willow Curve is most often used with a rechargeable customized Lithium-Ion battery pack. However, it may for temporary purposes also be run from a 120V (USA) wall current.
  • It is preferable to plug the Willow Curve power supply into a surge suppressor to avoid potential damage to the Willow circuity from external electrical spikes.
  • After every treatment session return your Willow Curve to the charging base. The system will protect against battery overcharging.  This will ensure you will have a full charge when you are ready to use your Willow Curve.
  1. BATTERY
  • A customized Lithium-Ion battery pack is preinstalled in the Willow Curve.
  • A fully depleted battery pack generally requires 4-5 hours to fully charge. You can usually get 3-4 treatments on a fully charged battery. This will run   the Willow Curve, but not charge the battery. Battery life will vary depending on usage
  • Replacement genuine Willow Curve battery packs are available for purchase from the company.
  1. SPARE BATTERY
  • 1 battery pack is included in the Willow Curve packaging.
  • A spare battery pack can be purchased at any time. Use of any other battery pack voids the Willow Curve warranty.

  1. WILLOW CURVE WAVE LENGTHS, FREQUENCIES AND ELECTRONICS
  • The Willow Curve utilizes a wide spectrum of energies, frequencies (500 nm-1000nm and delivery parameters that are adjusted in real time between 200-4,000 HZ to the user’s needs. It operates on multiple dynamic frequencies.
  • This facilitates enhanced multiple bio-physiologic-chemical processes and the removal of cellular debris so it flows from your joints and muscles and is eliminated by your body.
  • The Willow Curve is not a conventional therapeutic laser. It offers smart technology and mimics what happens when therapeutic lasers are used. However, the Willow Curve technology poses none of the dangers and risks of the therapeutic laser.
  1. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
  • As with any medical device please consult your physician before use.
  • The Willow Curve also comes with an illustrated Start Here Guide and your personal and Pain Management Treatment Plan included in the packaging.
  1. HOW LONG TO TREAT
  • The default time for a single treatment is 25 minutes. According to the NIH sponsored study, stressed tissues become starved for oxygen.  Pain relief can begin within 12 minutes of application of Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) and included:
  1. Light energy absorbed by cytochrome C oxidase triggers multiple biological effects.
  2. Nitric oxide is released which improves blood flow and analgesic healing effect.
  3. Increased ATP provides more energy to the cells and tissues to reduce pain and accelerated healing.
  4. Local release of analgesic hormones.

Oxidative stress is reduced affecting components in the cell reducing production of inflammation.  Energized cells in blood and lymph travel for system effects, including effects on the nerves and suppression of the pain signal to the brain.  The number of treatments required for full relief will vary depending on the individual’s condition, physiologic and nutritional status.
